Sustainable Powys
A bit of background
Delivering valued local government services is at the heart of all we do. With changing times and economic conditions, we need to be pro-active, innovative and forward-thinking to deliver quality public services for the future.
We recognise the challenges and we want to work in partnership to explore the opportunities to make the changes needed to build the stronger, fairer and greener future for Powys.
The financial situation
The current economic crisis and rising cost of living means Powys County Council is forecasting more than a £20million gap for the 2024/25 financial year. This is expected to increase to £44million or more over the next four years. This leaves a considerable gap in our available finances and means we can’t afford to continue delivering our services in the same way.
In previous years we have looked to our services to become more efficient. Whilst changes have been made, this approach is not sustainable in the long-term and we now need to be more radical and change our approach.
What is Sustainable Powys?
At Powys County Council, we are taking a new approach to how we plan and deliver public services in the future.
We want to ensure we can deliver stronger, fairer, and greener services going forward, whilst remaining within the available budget.
'Sustainable Powys' is a pro-active approach to address this - reviewing what services are provided and how, whilst working together with local communities to explore innovative solutions and build resilience to help meet local need.
How can you get involved?
Engagement is an important part of Sustainable Powys. We want everyone to have the opportunity to have their say and help shape the future of Powys - whether you are a resident, member of staff, councillor, business owner, or other stakeholder. It is only through working together that we can realise our ambitions - Get involved!
There are a variety of ways to get involved:

 | Join Powys People's Panel. If you'd like to receive invitations from time to time, to take part in surveys and other opportunities to express your views on council services, and other issues related to living in Powys, please tick the box on your council ‘My Account’ profile: https://en.powys.gov.uk/login |
 | Contact your local Councillor. Local Councillors are elected by the community to decide how the council should carry out its various activities. You can contact your Councillor to help you if you have a local issue that you want to discuss with them. Find your Councillor: https://en.powys.gov.uk/findmycouncillor |

1. To access the map, scroll to the bottom right hand side of this section and click the blue "Go to Map" button. (Please give the map time to load).
2. To share your views on our interactive map, simply:
- Click on the map
- Zoom in to locate where you want to place your pin
- Select the plus '+' symbol to add a pin
- Select the pin topic that your comment relates to
- Drag and drop your pin onto the map (You can only pin comments within the boundaries of Powys county).
- Add your comment and press submit
