Scheme
This scheme is to make the temporary pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, and the highway one-way system around Llandrindod Wells, established during the covid pandemic, permanent.
The scheme will also establish an improved active travel link (pedestrian and cycle path) along Princes Road leading north towards Spa Road East.
Changes to existing path
The temporary pedestrian and cycle path currently in place will be made permanent. This will include moving the current kerb out to create a minimum three-metre-wide shared use path.
Why are we doing this?
Welsh Government have made it clear that walking and cycling must be the natural mode of choice for short everyday journeys, or as part of a longer journey in combination with other sustainable modes. Powys County Council undertakes multiple projects every year to improve and add to the growing network of active travel routes throughout the county to make it easier for us all to enjoy walking and cycling in our local areas.
Llandrindod Wells Town Council have helped analyse the one-way trial, which was implemented during the pandemic to safely improve walking and cycling accessibility around the lake. This feedback from the community has been taken into account and the scheme has been deemed a success.
It is now recommended to make these changes permanent, and we are currently seeking feedback from the community on the feasible options.
Who is funding this?
The LUF (Levelling Up Fund) from UK Central Government will cover all costs associated with this scheme.
When is it starting?
Detailed designs are currently being developed and will be available online shortly.
It is anticipated construction will begin in late autumn 2024.
