Consultation has concluded
Background
Ysgol Calon Cymru opened in September 2018, following the merger of Llandrindod High School and Builth Wells High School. The school provides secondary education for pupils aged 11 – 18 across two campuses in the two towns.
The school is on an improvement journey. Whilst a great deal of progress has been made, it has become clear that the school’s two sited model is restricting it’s ability to continue to grow and develop.
In 2020, the Council developed a business case which looked at future options for Ysgol Calon Cymru. This identified the following possible plan:
A new 11-18 English-medium campus in Llandrindod Wells; plus
A remodelled 4-18 Welsh-medium all-through campus in Builth Wells.
The Council wants to know what people think about the possible plan before it starts the legal process that would need to be followed to make these changes.
The main focus of this exercise is on the future plans for Ysgol Calon Cymru, however some other schools could also be impacted by these plans, in particular Builth Wells C.P. School.
You can let us know your views on the possible plan by completing this questionnaire. You can also send us your views in writing to school.organisation@powys.gov.uk or to the Transforming Education Team, Powys County Council, County Hall, Llandrindod Wells, Powys, LD1 LG.
The Questionnaire
The questionnaire is split into sections, which focus on different parts of the possible plan for Ysgol Calon Cymru.
As the possible plan involves changes to Welsh-medium education provision, there is also a section about Welsh-medium education in the Mid and South Powys area.
You do not have to answer all of the sections – please answer those sections which are of interest to you.
Questionnaires must be returned by 26th January 2022.
What will happen next?
The Council will prepare a report which summarises the findings of this informal engagement exercise.
The report will then be considered by the Council’s Cabinet. If the Cabinet decide to proceed with the plans, formal consultation will be carried out.
If you have any queries about this exercise, you can contact the Transforming Education Team by e-mailing school.organisation@powys.gov.uk or phoning 01597 826618.
